UAE universities start gradual return to campus

After weeks of online learning, several UAE universities started a gradual return to in-person classes on Monday, March 30. The move is focused on priority programmes where hands-on learning is essential.

This comes after Circular No. (2) of 2026 from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR), in coordination with the Education, Human Development and Community Development Council.

Safety first, always

Universities reopening for in-person sessions must follow strict safety guidelines. This includes approved evacuation plans, indoor-only classes, and clear communication of safety measures to students, staff, and faculty.

Programs that don’t require physical presence will continue online until April 3, unless further updates are announced. Universities are also responsible for ensuring learning outcomes and maintaining academic standards.

Some universities are sticking to online learning

Not all schools are heading back yet. Several American universities in the UAE are continuing fully remote learning for now:

  • American University in Dubai will keep classes online until April 5, with faculty working remotely.
  • American University of Sharjah (AUS) announced that all sessions will remain online until further notice. Students are encouraged to follow official AUS channels for updates.
  • American University of Ras Al Khaimah (AURAK) will continue remote classes and operations from March 30 to April 3, with campus access limited to essential staff only.

These universities have urged their communities to stay updated through official channels and follow government guidelines.

Stay updated

To make sure you don’t miss any important updates, follow the latest guidance from Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and your university. Keeping an eye on these channels will help you stay informed, plan ahead, and stay safe while campuses gradually reopen.
