Authorities Clarify Why Emergency Alerts Are Sent To Some People And Not Others

How the alerts are issued

According to National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority, these alerts are sent when the UAE Ministry of Defence confirms that air defence systems are responding to incoming missiles or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

At the same time, National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the Ministry of Interior send out notifications advising residents and visitors to stay indoors and take precautions. Once the situation is under control, a follow-up message is sent confirming that it is safe.

It all depends on the location

The national early warning system works based on geographic targeting. Alerts are only sent to areas that are directly affected, depending on the location, type, and scale of the situation.

This means some areas may receive alerts about missile activity, while others won’t, simply because they are not impacted.

Why some people don’t receive alerts

Whether an alert reaches you depends on your exact location at the time it is issued, along with your phone’s emergency alert settings.

In some cases, people nearby may still hear sounds linked to the situation, like reverberations, even if they don’t receive a notification.

Didn’t get the alert? Here’s what it means

Not receiving an alert doesn’t mean something went wrong. It actually shows that the system is working as intended, sending messages only to the areas that need them, at the right time. So no, it’s not your phone. You’re safe.

Stay safe & follow official updates

In moments like these, staying informed and following official guidance makes all the difference. Keep an eye on updates from trusted authorities, follow safety instructions, and avoid spreading unverified information. Taking simple precautions and staying alert helps keep everyone safe.
