England vs Mexico DELAYED – What time does England play today? Is it postponed?

  • England kick-off time delayed to 2am BST / 7pm Mexico City
  • 63% chance of thunderstorms at Mexico City Stadium (Azteca)
  • More lightning delays if storms move over the stadium

The England vs Mexico kick off time has been delayed by one hour – the England game now starts at 2am BST / 7pm Mexico after a “shelter-in-place order at the Azteca Stadium”.

England’s World Cup is officially delayed for an hour (so far) as supporters, who were told to arrive two hours before kick-off, have been warned to remain in their seats at the Azteca ground.

Earlier today, experts predicted a 63% chance of thunderstorms around the Azteca. But it’s not the rain that could delay England vs Mexico – but lightning.

If lightning strikes move within 8 miles of the stadium, FIFA safety protocols could see England’s Round of 16 match halted for a minimum of 30 minutes.

Will England vs Mexico be postponed?

England vs Mexico has not been postponed – but kick off has been delayed by ONE hour. The new England kick off time is 7pm local time in Mexico City (2am BST).

According to Alan Shearer, it’s been “pouring with rain for the last 2-3 hours” and there’s a serious risk of yet more delays to the England kick-off because of thunderstorms and lightning around the Azteca Stadium.

Officials activated a ‘shelter indoors’ warning on the jumbo TV screens in the stadium a couple of hours before the original 1am BST kick off time.

Earlier in the tournament, Mexico’s Round of 32 match against Ecuador was delayed by an hour because of severe thunderstorms
